Marjorie J. Peerce, a pioneering white collar litigator who serves as Managing Partner of Ballard Spahr’s office in New York City, will be honored as a “Trailblazer” by the Women’s White Collar Defense Association (WWCDA) at the organization’s annual awards gala on December 7.
Registration for the virtual event is free and available at https://wwcdaawardsgala.org/.
Ms. Peerce is among a select group of “early trailblazers” the WWCDA will recognize at its third annual awards event, to pay tribute to women who have used their platform as litigators to create change and address needs in the profession and community at large. WWCDA was founded and has grown under the leadership of these women, who saw a need to connect and collaborate to help each other advance and make the field of white collar law more equitable and diverse.
After clerking in federal court in the Southern District of New York, Ms. Peerce joined Manhattan-based firm Stillman, Friedman and Shaw in 1986 and was promoted to partner in 1991. She was one of the founders of the first women’s white collar group in New York City in the late 1990s—one of the first such groups in the country. In 2013, Stillman Friedman merged with Ballard Spahr. In addition to serving as Managing Partner of the New York office, Ms. Peerce is a member of Ballard Spahr’s Elected Board—comprising a majority of women—and a founder and co-leader of the firm’s Blockchain Technology and Cryptocurrency team.
Ms. Peerce focuses on white collar criminal defense, virtual currency, regulatory matters, and complex civil litigation. Among many other bar and pro bono activities, she was the first female officer of the New York Council of Defense Lawyers, Chaired the Board of Directors of the New York City Bar Association and currently serves as NYCBA Vice President, and maintains an active pro bono practice, including having served on the Steering Committee for Clemency Project 2014. She has received numerous previous awards, including the New York Law Journal's Lawyers Who Lead by Example Public Service Award.
