Human Trafficking Awareness CLE: Nuances, Partnerships, Legal Protections, and Victim Assistance
The Advocates for Human Rights
January is National Human Trafficking Prevention Month, and Ballard Spahr is teaming up with The Advocates for Human Rights to sponsor and present this CLE webinar to raise awareness and promote prevention efforts.
Led by Lindsey Greising, staff attorney with The Advocates for Human Rights, and Madeline Lohman, senior researcher with the organization, the CLE will consist of two parts (attend one or both):
12-1 p.m. (CST) – This session will be an overview of human trafficking. It will examine the causes, dynamics, and typology of trafficking in both sex and labor markets. This session will also cover successful collaborations between NGO, governmental, and private sectors in uncovering trafficking, assisting victims, and prosecuting perpetrators under state law and the federal Trafficking Victims Protection Act. Appropriate referrals and opportunities to provide victim assistance will also covered. (1 hour CLE credit)
1:15-2:15 PM (CST) – This segment will focus on how to address evidentiary issues related to T-visa applications. Participants should have some basic knowledge of the T-visa or U-visa applications prior to attending. Click here for a video that provides basic T-visa training. Concrete examples will be provided. (1 hour CLE credit).
This program is approved for 2.0 CLE credits in CA, NY, & PA; and 2.4 in NJ. MN CLE is pending. Uniform Certificates of Attendance will also be provided for the purpose of seeking credit in other jurisdictions.
