Wendy R. Stein—an intellectual property litigator who represents corporations and individuals in patent, trademark, trade secret, and unfair competition matters—has joined Ballard Spahr’s Intellectual Property Department and Intellectual Property Litigation Group as a partner, firm Chair Mark Stewart announced today. Ms. Stein will be resident in the firm’s New York office.
“We have known Wendy for several years, having served as co-counsel with her on matters in Arizona, Texas, and the Federal Circuit,” Mr. Stewart said. “Her skills are impressive, she shares the firm’s dedication to client service, and she will be a terrific addition to our IP litigation practice.”
Ms. Stein regularly works with clients in the life sciences, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, and software industries. She is a first-chair litigator who represents clients before federal and state courts across the country, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, New York’s Commercial Division, and the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.
“Expanding our intellectual property litigation capabilities in New York continues to be a strategic priority for us,” said Intellectual Property Litigation Practice Leader Richard W. Miller. “Wendy’s talent, enthusiasm, and credentials made it clear to us that she is the right person to help us expand our services to clients in New York and across the country.”
Ms. Stein will conclude her term as president of the Southern District of New York Chapter of the Federal Bar Association next month. She came to Ballard Spahr from Chiesa Shahinian & Giantomasi PC. In New York, she joins Intellectual Property Partners Kenneth H. Sonnenfeld, Ph.D., and Margaret "Peg" Bolce Brivanlou, Ph.D. She also will work closely with Partner Brian W. LaCorte in Phoenix.
“Ballard Spahr has a national practice and a strong New York presence, giving me the kind of platform I need to continue to develop and provide more comprehensive client service,” Ms. Stein said. “I have been fortunate to work with many of the firm’s intellectual property attorneys and have seen their work—and the way they work with clients—firsthand. I am pleased to join their ranks.”
