Christopher A. Hatfield

Chris’ extensive white collar defense background has included defending clients facing allegations of bribery and honest services fraud, payment of kickbacks, computer fraud, mail and wire fraud, disclosing restricted personal information, antitrust violations, federal false statement violations, failure to comply with anti-money laundering requirements, and violations of securities laws related to cryptocurrency offerings. He has defended clients being investigated by the Office of the Special Counsel, United States Attorney’s Offices, state attorneys general, the Department of Justice Consumer Protection Branch and Antitrust Division, the Securities and Exchange Commission, and the Federal Reserve Board. He has also represented clients in hearings before and interviews by Congressional committees.

Chris also has experience performing internal corporate investigations into executive malfeasance, improper workplace conduct, and other allegations made in shareholder derivative complaints. As part of these investigations, he has performed numerous interviews of employees and other witnesses and managed detailed reviews of records and documents.

Chris is no stranger to high-profile representations, having represented multiple individuals investigated or interviewed by Special Counsel Robert S. Mueller as part of his investigation into Russian efforts to interfere in the 2016 election and related matters, a former member of Congress seeking release from prison, and a former Congressional staffer accused of stealing Congressional data and posting restricted information.

Chris also maintains a commitment to pro bono service, having represented clients petitioning for compassionate release and defending tenants in eviction proceedings. He has long worked with the D.C. Bar Foundation in support of civil legal aid for financially disenfranchised and otherwise underserved D.C. residents.
