Public Records Disputes Target of Nevada Lawmaker's Bill Creating an Ombudsman

February 26, 2025

As Nevada debates a state lawmaker's bill that would attempt to expedite access to public records, a possible sticking point has emerged—the ombudsman position that the bill would create would be an appointee of the governor.

"For this idea to have any chance of success, the ombudsman must be completely independent. While there are many other tweaks I would suggest to this bill in its current form, ensuring that the ombudsman isn’t a government ‘yes man’ would be number one," she said.
