Housing Finance Attorney Garland Gantt Rejoins Ballard Spahr

August 19, 2024

Garland W. Gantt, III—a transactional attorney who focuses on affordable and market-rate multifamily housing finance—has rejoined Ballard Spahr’s national Finance Department and Housing Finance and Public Finance groups as of counsel, firm chair Peter V. Michaud announced today. Garland is resident in the firm’s Washington, D.C. office.

Garland represents financial institutions in the acquisition, construction, and financing of commercial and residential real estate properties. His practice spans a variety of commercial real estate transactions, including Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac financings for multifamily projects; charter school projects; affordable housing developments benefited by 4 percent or 9 percent low-income housing tax credits; and construction financing. Garland was an associate with Ballard Spahr for 10 years and rejoined the firm from the law firm of Carlton Fields.

“We couldn’t be more pleased to have Garland back with the firm,” said Emilie R. Ninan, who co-leads the Finance Department alongside Dominic J. De Simone. “He knows our clients and has a well-deserved reputation for doing excellent work. Our housing finance and public finance attorneys are busy, and having Garland back with us will be of immediate benefit both to us and to our clients.”

Ballard Spahr’s Housing Finance team handles housing and community development transactions across the country. With vast experience in both taxable and tax-exempt lending structures, the firm’s housing finance lawyers represent real estate development, finance, and investment firms, as well as commercial banks, other mortgage banking institutions, bond issuers, and underwriters.

“The Ballard finance team is among the best and busiest in the country, and I’m excited to be back,” Garland said. “The teams I’m rejoining are handling complex projects across industries and across the country that meaningfully address significant needs in cities and towns nationwide—this is a great fit for me and for my clients.”
