Ballard Spahr is a finalist for the Best Professional Development Initiative in The American Lawyer’s 2024 Industry Awards.
The award will honor “an organization that has defined and executed an initiative or overall mission that supports, enhances, and systematizes the professional development of its members.” The American Lawyer will announce the winner for the Best Professional Development Initiative and other categories at an event on November 13 in New York City.
Ballard Spahr’s Pathways to Partnership initiative is an annual partnership pipeline program designed and administered by the firm’s Attorney Career Advancement (ACA) Department. Through a seven-month curriculum that includes webinars, seminars, individual and group coaching, and live panels with firm leaders, Pathways educates participants about the firm’s partnership promotion process, offers guidance on how to best position for partnership, and enhances skills to help candidates “hit the ground running” once promoted. Sessions include direct interaction with firm leaders—including one-on-one conversations with members of the Elected Board—about topics such as partnership promotion criteria, support, and resources available to help aspiring partners reach their goals.
Ballard Spahr’s ACA Department works for the successful integration and professional development of the firm’s lawyers, no matter their career stage, by providing the tools they need to achieve success in the legal marketplace. Ballard Spahr attorneys at all levels are provided opportunities to engage in an array of business development training and initiatives, legal skills and project management training, coaching, mentorship, networking, and more, with programs focused on skills needed at designated junctures in an attorney's career.
