Ethan A. Anderson has been named co-leader of Equality Ballard, the firm’s business resource group for LGBTQIA+ colleagues and allies. Equality Ballard provides opportunities for business development and pro bono outreach to the LGBTQIA+ community while maintaining a supportive internal environment.
Mr. Anderson, a Denver-based associate in the Public Finance Group within the firm’s national Finance Department, is a transactional attorney who serves as counsel to issuers and underwriters in the issuance of securities by governmental units and conduit issuers. He prepares offering statements and transaction documents, including bond documents, loan agreements, resolutions, certificates, legal opinions, and other closing documents, in tax-exempt and taxable issuances. Mr. Anderson is also a member of the firm’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Council, the National LGBTQ+ Bar Association, and the Colorado LGBT Bar Association.
Mr. Anderson joins Jessica DuBois, who has served as co-leader of Equality Ballard for the past two years. Ms. DuBois, a Minneapolis-based associate in the firm’s Business and Transactions Department and Labor and Employment Group, advises corporate and nonprofit employers on employee benefits and executive compensation matters. Prior to entering the legal profession, Ms. DuBois worked with a nonprofit organization, where she assisted communities in passing ordinances inclusive of sexual orientation and gender identity. She is a member of the firm’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Council and a former co-chair of the Minnesota Lavender Bar Association.
With the launch of Equality Ballard in 2008, Ballard Spahr was the first Philadelphia law firm to create an affinity group for LGBTQIA+ attorneys, and lawyers across the firm provide pro bono service to LGBTQIA+ causes, including transgender name changes, powers of attorney and living wills, asylum relief, and challenges to bans on gender-affirming care. As a firm, Ballard Spahr has earned a 100-percent rating in the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s Corporate Equality Index for five consecutive years. Chair-Elect Peter V. Michaud, who will be the firm’s first openly gay chair when his term begins on January 1, 2024, was recently named a Notable LGBTQ+ Executive by Twin Cities Business.
