Ballard Spahr Litigation Partner Michelle M. McGeogh has been elected to the Board of Directors for Maryland Volunteer Lawyers Service (MVLS), the largest provider of pro bono legal services to low-income Maryland residents.
MVLS is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that directly helps Maryland residents facing legal challenges while also fighting to change systems that harm people living in or near poverty through pro bono representation, community engagement, and legislative and administrative advocacy. Its volunteer attorneys and tax professionals help individual clients resolve their life-changing civil issues, and its staff attorneys build on that impact by forging meaningful community partnerships and identifying specific inequities in the legal system.
In her practice, Ms. McGeogh is a member of the Real Estate and Construction Litigation Group. She represents commercial landlords in litigation and has defended landlords from breach of contract, negligence, and fraud claims. Ms. McGeogh also routinely represents employers in litigation, conducts internal investigations, and co-leads Ballard Spahr’s Accessibility team. She regularly counsels clients on matters relating to digital and physical accessibility. Ms. McGeogh provides pro bono counsel to a range of clients, focusing particularly on civil rights representations. She is also a member of Ballard Spahr’s Pro Bono Committee, helping to lead the program through which attorneys at the firm contribute more than 50,000 hours annually so that that clients have a voice and a legal advocate regardless of their ability to pay.
