Ballard Spahr has been awarded the 2022 Law Firm/Legal Department Inclusiveness@Work Award by the Denver-based Center for Legal Inclusiveness. The award recognizes Ballard Spahr’s efforts to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion in the firm, in the legal profession, and in its communities.
In particular, the firm was cited for its INVEST sponsorship—a tactical approach to recruiting, retaining, and advancing talent from diverse backgrounds that furthers diversity, equity, and inclusion among its attorneys—and for its Racial Justice and Equality Initiative, which takes on pro bono cases that specifically address racial injustice and inequity, and provides financial support to partner organizations engaged in tackling racial injustice and inequity.
For nearly a decade, the Denver office has hosted a Resume Writing and Interview Skills Workshop for diverse first-year law students. It also is the only Colorado law firm participating in the College Track program, which helps students confronting systemic barriers to pursue a college education. Denver Office Managing Partner Damon O. Barry and Denver Real Estate Partner Alicia B. Clark are members of the firm’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Council.
The award is the latest in a series of accolades for Ballard Spahr’s diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts and programs. Nationally, Ballard Spahr has attained Mansfield Rule 4.0 Certification and Mansfield Certification Plus status, WILEF Gold Standard Certification for 11 consecutive years, and a perfect score of the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index for five years in a row.
The Center for Legal Inclusiveness is a nonprofit organization that advances diversity in the legal profession by actively educating and supporting private- and public-sector legal organizations in their own individual campaigns to create cultures of inclusion.
