Based in Ballard Spahr’s office in New York City, Dr. Sonnenfeld is a patent attorney with over 30 years of experience as IP counsel to biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry clients ranging from domestic startups to multinational corporations.
With a background that includes a doctorate in pharmacology, Dr. Sonnenfeld advises on the complex technical issues that arise in biotech and pharmaceutical patent matters. Prior to entering the legal profession, he conducted research in academic medicine on neuronal development and cancer. He counsels clients on a range of inter-party issues, including due diligence, litigation, foreign oppositions, and licensing. Dr. Sonnenfeld supervises complex, strategic patent prosecution before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and oversees foreign prosecution.
