Ballard Spahr has been recognized as one of the Best Law Firms for Women in the annual list published by Seramount—formerly Working Mother Media—highlighting firms that utilize best practices in recruiting, retaining, promoting, and developing women lawyers.
Seramount’s 2021 Best Law Firms for Women is based on firms’ attorney demographics at different levels, schedule flexibility, paid time off, parental leaves, and the development and retention of women. This year, in light of COVID-19, several criteria were added about the success of lawyers working from home.
The Best Law Firms for Women designation is the latest in a series of honors for Ballard Spahr’s efforts to advance women attorneys at the firm and within the legal profession. The firm has been recognized by publications and community organizations across the country, including the Yale Law Women’s 2020 Gender Equity & Family Friendliness Report and WomenInc. For the past decade, the firm has earned the Gold Standard Certification from the Women in Law Empowerment Forum.
Ballard Spahr provides professional development support to women to enhance their participation in key leadership roles, both within and outside the firm. The firm provides a wide range of networking, sponsorship, and mentoring programs for women at all levels of their careers, led by the firm’s Ballard Women business resource group and the firm’s Professional Development Team. Women comprise 50 percent of Ballard Spahr’s Elected Board, 33 percent of legal department chair positions, and 38 percent of the firm’s Allocation Committee, which applies compensation allocation policies established by the Board.
