Prosecutors Agree to Let Media Access Capitol Riot Footage

Charles D. Tobin, Practice Leader of Ballard Spahr's Media and Entertainment Law Group, represents a coalition of more than a dozen media outlets in seeking access to video footage from the January 6 riots at the U.S. Capitol.
The footage is part of a case against a protester who allegedly used a chemical irritant against law enforcement officers. Prosecutors had initially resisted releasing the footage, but eventually withdrew their opposition.
"The government eventually made the right call deciding not to force a confrontation with journalists over transparency," Mr. Tobin told Law360. "Our clients remain committed to full and timely public access to the evidence as these critical prosecutions unfold."
