As more states legalize cannabis to some degree, the resulting patchwork of laws becomes ever more difficult to navigate for entrepreneurs, legislators, journalists, and consumers.
The Cannabis Group at Ballard Spahr has created the Cannabis Legislation Tracker, a technology solution to keep all current and aspiring stakeholders in this multibillion dollar market up to date.
“Our Cannabis Legislation Tracker is a tool that helps users follow legislation affecting the cannabis sector,” said Beth Moskow-Schnoll, head of Ballard Spahr’s Cannabis Group and managing partner of the firm’s Delaware office. “It’s a resource available to anyone with an interest in this evolving industry.”
In consultation with the Cannabis Group, Ballard Spahr’s Client Value and Innovation Team identified key jurisdictions and industry topics and then developed a Ballard360 tracker to show both existing law and pending legislation across the United States. The Cannabis Legislation Tracker is the first Ballard360 tool to focus on a specific industry and represents a new way for Ballard Spahr lawyers and clients to collaborate and share insights. It is designed to be a user-friendly reference to help clients quickly spot emerging issues.
“The Cannabis Legislation Tracker can adapt to suit the changing needs of our clients as this business sector develops and matures,” said Melissa Prince, Ballard Spahr’s Chief Client Value and Innovation Officer. “Some states continue to wrestle with legalization while others have moved on to addressing labeling, marketing, and financial concerns. This tool will help our lawyers and clients gauge where each jurisdiction is headed and collaborate to take appropriate action.”
