Carin Marney is co-leader of Ballard Spahr’s Health Care industry team. She represents health care and long-term care providers in regulatory and litigation matters. She has deep experience advising clients in this highly regulated industry on compliance and helping them avoid and resolve disputes, both in and outside of court.
Carin serves as outside general counsel to seniors housing and long-term care clients on a wide range of issues including:
- Operational advice
- Fair housing
- Resident transfers and discharges
- Compliance with skilled nursing requirements of participation
- Compliance with assisted living regulations
- Informal dispute resolution and administrative appeals of state and federal enforcement action
- Drafting residency agreements, policies and procedures, and resident handbooks

- Resident rights issues
- Legislative advocacy
- Admission agreements, policies and procedures, and resident handbooks
- Drafting and training facilities on the use of arbitration agreements
- Crisis management
