Colorado AI Bias Law Lays 'Foundation' for New State Patchwork

When it goes into effect on February 1, 2026, the Colorado AI Act will put "significant" new accountability, reporting, and transparency duties on companies that use AI systems in areas like hiring, housing, and lending. Law360 spoke to Gregory Szewczyk, among others, about how the law—which is not without its potential issues—is helping Colorado emerge as a national leader in the data privacy realm.

"It wouldn't be surprising to see more states follow some general paradigm while including their own take on AI, with some going further and some scaling back a little," Mr. Szewczyk said.
