New Government Rule Restricts Who Can Be Considered an Independent Contractor

The Biden administration's reinstatement of a Department of Labor rule for determining which workers can be seen as independent contractors and which must be classified as employees prompted a reporter from Marketplace to reach out Denise M. Keyser for insight into its repercussions.
Ms. Keyser told the reporter that the reinstated rule looks at the whole of the economic relationship between company and worker.
“Are they truly independent? Are they in business for themselves? Are they investing in materials or equipment?” she said. “Are they running their own business? Are they running the show?”
