Experienced labor and employment lawyer Elizabeth K. McManus has rejoined Ballard Spahr, where she will divide her time between the firm’s New York and Philadelphia offices, firm Chair Mark Stewart announced.
The addition of Ms. McManus to Ballard Spahr’s Labor and Employment Group comes amid a challenging and volatile period for employers, brought on by the continuing COVID-19 pandemic and its economic fallout. Having formerly practiced at the firm, Ms. McManus’s return to Ballard Spahr adds further depth to the Group’s national platform, particularly in New York, where the firm’s clients include major employers in a variety of industries.
“Our clients need strong guidance and advocacy during this time of unparalleled challenge,” said Denise Keyser, practice leader of the firm’s Labor and Employment Group. “Beth will be a fantastic asset; she has rock-solid knowledge of the law, exceptional courtroom skills, and a great demeanor. And her familiarity with our firm will help her hit the ground running.”
Ms. McManus has long represented large, complex businesses and organizations—including global banks, consulting firms, major league sports teams, and health systems—who rely on her to lead complex employment litigation on sensitive topics involving race, gender, and age discrimination, as well as leave and accommodation matters. She has a wealth of experience litigating in both federal and state courts across the country and before administrative agencies. Ms. McManus also has conducted high-profile internal investigations, and counsels private and public employers on a wide range of labor and employment issues, including workplace policies, terminations, and layoffs.
“It’s great to be back at Ballard,” she said. “I am well aware of the firm’s core values of excellence, integrity, inclusiveness, and outstanding citizenship. I also admire the firm’s national platform, broad geographic reach, and strength across so many areas of practice.”
