Ballard Spahr represented Sundance Partners, Ltd. and its affiliated companies in the sale of the iconic Sundance Mountain Resort to Storyteller Canyon Investments, LLC, and affiliated companies controlled by Broadreach Capital Partners and Cedar Capital Partners.
The buyers plan to continue managing the iconic resort in alignment with founder Robert Redford’s vision of balancing sustainable development with preservation. The 2,600-acre Sundance Mountain Resort includes 1,845 acres of land preserved though a conservation easement and protective covenants. Additionally, Mr. Redford and his family have donated 300 acres of land and have established the Redford Family Elk Meadows Preserve in coordination with Utah Open Lands.
Mr. Redford opened Sundance Mountain Resort in 1969. Readers of Condé Nast Traveler named it the top ski resort in North America in the magazine’s 2019 Readers’ Choice Awards.
Ballard Spahr has represented Sundance Partners for over a decade. The Ballard Spahr team included Christopher W. Payne, the Denver-based Practice Leader of the firm’s Resort, Hospitality and Timeshare Group, and Thomas G. Bennett, the firm’s leading land use and resort real estate partner in Salt Lake City.
