Law360's Glass Ceiling Report rankings come from a survey of more than 300 U.S. firms. To determine the ranking, the publication first groups firms according to their size, and then ranks them based on their proportion of female attorneys and their proportion of female equity partners. This year, the survey was expanded to include measures such as partner promotions, executive committees, and other policies specifically designed for women as part of promoting diversity and inclusion.
Ballard Spahr has been honored by publications and community organizations across the country for its efforts to advance women attorneys at the firm and within the legal profession. It was recently recognized in the Yale Law Women’s 2020 Gender Equity & Family Friendliness Report and has been ranked among the best U.S. law firms for women by WomenInc and Working Mother. For the past decade, the firm has earned the Gold Standard Certification from the Women in Law Empowerment Forum.
Women comprise nearly 28.5 percent of Ballard Spahr’s equity partners, well above the national average. The firm provides professional development support to bolster the trajectory of women into key participation and leadership roles, both within and outside the firm. Ballard Spahr’s wide range of networking, sponsorship, and mentoring programs for women address all career levels. The firm supports its female lawyers through the Ballard Women group, co-chaired by Las Vegas Partner Maria Gall, Minneapolis Partner Nicole R. Hittner, Atlanta Associate Chittam U. Thakore, and Philadelphia Associate Jane Rose Siegfried.
