Ballard Spahr's Pennsylvania Private Client Services (PCS) practice and four of the group's attorneys—based in Pennsylvania, Minnesota, and South Dakota—are recognized in the recently released Chambers High Net Worth (HNW) guide 2018 rankings for excellence in Private Wealth Law.
Ballard Spahr is one of only four firms to receive the highest possible ranking, Band 1, in the Private Wealth Law category for Pennsylvania. Chambers HNW describes Ballard Spahr as "a large firm with exceptional resources, and they can provide a range of very useful services for HNW clients." The firm's Pennsylvania PCS practice is praised as a "fabulous department" with lawyers who "know their way around complex and high-value matters."
Marilyn Sanborne, a Philadelphia-based partner and leader of the firm's PCS Group, is ranked in Band 1 in the Pennsylvania Private Wealth Law category. Ms. Sanborne is "one of the leaders in the state for trust and estate work," and "everyone knows you can rely on her advice and judgment," according to Chambers HNW.
Mavis Van Sambeek, a Minneapolis-based PCS partner, is recognized for Private Wealth Law practice for Minnesota, and Mary Akkerman, counsel in the Sioux Falls office, is recognized for South Dakota. Jordan Veurink, also based in Sioux Falls, is recognized as an Associate to Watch in South Dakota—the only associate in the state to achieve the designation.
Ballard Spahr added its Minneapolis and Sioux Falls offices earlier this year through a merger with Lindquist & Vennum, a premier Midwest firm with an acclaimed trusts and estates practice. The merger enhanced Ballard Spahr's ability to provide trust planning services to clients seeking to take advantage of South Dakota's favorable trust and tax laws.
"Ballard Spahr's expansion into the Midwest through the merger has extended both the reach and depth of our Private Client Services practice," Ms. Sanborne said. "Our ability to provide clients with representation and counsel for their private wealth management needs is stronger than ever, and we are gratified to have that reflected in Chambers HNW."
Now in its third year, Chambers HNW provides information to the international private wealth market based on research and interviews with industry participants. Chambers and Partners is considered one of the top research and rankings companies in the legal industry. Its rankings are based on data collection, peer reviews, and extensive client interviews.
In May, 95 Ballard Spahr attorneys and 32 practices were recognized by Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business for excellence in their areas of focus—the highest number of ranked practices ever for the firm.
