The Legal Intelligencer Selects Ballard Spahr as Pennsylvania’s Best Real Estate Practice

The Real Estate Department at Ballard Spahr has earned the designation of best real estate law practice in Pennsylvania from The Legal Intelligencer in the daily law journal’s Best Law Firm Specialty Practices Contest, covering accomplishments over the past two years.

This marks the second consecutive No. 1 statewide ranking in the real estate category for Ballard Spahr, which took top honors in The Legal’s inaugural specialty practices contest in 2013.

“Since then, our practice has soared to new heights – literally,” said Real Estate Department Chair Bart Mellits. The firm’s work on an impressive array of major projects includes what will be the tallest building in Pennsylvania history – the 59-story Comcast Innovation and Technology Center under construction in Center City Philadelphia. It will be the tallest U.S. building outside Chicago and New York.

“This tribute from The Legal Intelligencer is a testament to the hard work, dedication to client service, professionalism, and collaboration that form the pillars on which we have built the Real Estate Department,” Mr. Mellits said. “I’m extremely proud of the Ballard team that earned this designation as the best in the Commonwealth.”

To identify the best real estate practice, The Legal analyzed the transactional and land use work of Pennsylvania law firms since 2013, concentrating primarily on work performed by Pennsylvania-based lawyers. Ballard Spahr’s roster of significant projects included development and financing deals in the greater Philadelphia region and throughout the country. The firm’s Real Estate Department will be featured in The Legal’s Best Law Firm Corporate Practices supplement, scheduled for publication on July 28. An event will be held in October to honor Ballard Spahr along with winners and finalists in other categories.

“This ranking from The Legal is particularly gratifying given the amount of competition from other fine firms in Pennsylvania,” Ballard Spahr Chair Mark Stewart said. “Being the best in Pennsylvania means we are among the best nationally.”
