Ricardo Jackman from our Washington, D.C., office will participate in this panel organized by Maryland State Delegate Darryl Barnes. Following a crucial 2021 U.S. Supreme Court decision, the NCAA suspended its rules prohibiting college athletes from profiting from their Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL). Since then, numerous college athletes have signed endorsement deals—and recently, high school athletes have gotten into the NIL game too. Many states, including Maryland, have adopted laws regulating NIL, and Delegate Barnes is tapping experts from various fields to advise him on the existing law and whether amendments are called for. Known for his work representing athletes and other performers, Ricardo is an authority on the NIL issue, as well as other sports legal and business issues, such as sports contracting, investment, and financial management.
