Recent Enforcement Activities of State Attorneys General
While the CFPB seems to get the most media and industry attention, state attorneys general are extremely active in investigating and enforcing state laws pertaining to consumer financial services (and often federal laws when incorporated into state law or when using their Dodd-Frank authority). We are thrilled to have Shennan Kavanaugh, Division Chief, Consumer Protection Division, Massachusetts Attorney General's Office, as our special guest. Shennan and Ballard lawyers involved in defending state Attorneys General enforcement initiatives will discuss the following State AG areas of focus and priorities:
- Mortgage Servicing
- Auto Financing
- Debt Collection
- Small Dollar Loans
- Debt Relief Companies
- Rent to Own
- FinTech Products
- Digital Payment Platforms
- Earned Wage Access
- Income Share Agreements
- Buy Now Pay Later
We will also discuss the ways and circumstances in which State AGs collaborate with other federal and state agencies (including the CFPB) to enhance resources, create efficiencies and drive outcomes and general approaches to enforcement.
