The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will take effect on May 25, 2018. It will impose significant data protection obligations on U.S. multinational companies that provide products or services to EU residents and process related personal information.

The regulation includes strict requirements on the transfer of personal data to the U.S. and notification in the event of a data breach. Failure to comply can result in significant penalties.
