Courtney Thornton is an Atlanta Intellectual Property attorney who focuses on trademark, copyright, advertising, and internet law matters.
Courtney counsels clients throughout the lifecycle of a brand, from clearance and registration to contract and license drafting, enforcement, and litigation. Her practice includes both domestic and foreign trademark prosecution, IP portfolio management and counseling, diligence, prosecution and defense of trademark oppositions and cancellations before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB), litigation in federal district courts, and actions before the National Advertising Division (NAD). She also advises clients in other internet-related matters, including those involving the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) and take-down notices, online copyright and trademark infringement, social media issues, and misappropriation of likeness.
Courtney has procured trademark registrations in more than 50 countries and has successfully helped clients obtain valuable domain names in disputes before the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).
Before law school, Courtney worked for over 10 years in advertising, sales, and marketing for Fortune 500 software and computer technology and pharmaceutical and medical device companies, as well as mobile search and search engine optimization startups. She frequently applies her previous experience in business and technology to her IP law practice.
