Summer Associate Candidates

The Summer Associate Program is our primary source for recruiting first-year associates at Ballard Spahr. The goal of our Summer Associate Program is to provide a strong foundation of key skills, valuable experience, and important relationships that will allow our summer associates to launch successful careers at the firm.

Entry Level Associate Candidates

We review our hiring needs for entry level associate candidates on an ongoing basis. If you are interested in an entry level associate position after graduation from law school or upon completion of a judicial clerkship, we welcome you to submit your materials through the resume collect links on the “Apply Now” tab. We will keep your materials on file to review if any positions become available.

We are excited to host 1L Fellows in several office locations each year. Our Ballard Spahr 1L Fellows join our Summer Associate Program, and they also have the unique opportunity to spend some time working as interns in the legal departments of our partner organizations.

Additionally, certain practice groups hire 2L Fellows to give students the opportunity to take a deep dive into a specific area of law during the Summer Associate Program. Availability of 2L Fellowships varies from year to year based on practice group hiring needs.

Thank you for your interest in Ballard Spahr's Summer Associate Program!

2026 Summer Program

We are now accepting applications for our 2026 Summer Program from rising 2L students (Class of 2027).

All students are encouraged to submit an application through our online portal in order to be considered for a Summer Associate position. Application links for our open 2L positions are posted below. You may apply to more than one position, but please address your interest in each position in your cover letter.

Please note that you may submit your initial application prior to receiving your second semester grades; however, we do require an updated transcript as a part of our application process. You may submit your updated transcript once your second semester grades are released by emailing a PDF copy to attorneyrecruiting@ballardspahr.com.

*All Summer Associates are encouraged to explore assignments in a variety of practice areas throughout the summer. However, Summer Associates in some office locations may focus more heavily on certain practice areas due to the specific hiring needs of that office.
