Scott M. Pearson, a partner in the Consumer Financial Services Group at Ballard Spahr and leader of the firm’s Marketplace Lending Task Force, has been named a Fellow of the American College of Consumer Financial Services Lawyers.
Mr. Pearson was sworn in at the College’s 2017 Awards Dinner held April 8 in New Orleans. He is the ninth attorney from Ballard Spahr to be admitted to the College, among the highest number of any firm.
Established in 1996, the College recognizes attorneys who are particularly skilled and experienced in handling consumer financial services matters and are dedicated to improving and enhancing the practice of consumer financial services law and the profession. Membership is by invitation only.
“It is an honor to join this highly esteemed organization,” Mr. Pearson said. “I am proud to join my Ballard Spahr colleagues in the College as we work with all the Fellows to advance the practice of consumer financial services law and help educate the public.”
Based in Ballard Spahr’s Los Angeles office, Mr. Pearson is widely regarded as one of the premier class action and regulatory enforcement lawyers in the United States. Prominent companies regularly entrust Mr. Pearson with matters involving bet-the-company exposure or extreme complexity. He also serves as a trusted strategic business advisor, drawing on more than 20 years of experience. His clients include national banks and other financial services firms, institutional investors, sports and entertainment companies, retailers, and others.
Mr. Pearson leads Ballard Spahr’s Marketplace Lending Task Force, which focuses on the representation of FinTech companies and their business partners. He is widely recognized as one of the preeminent authorities on the unique issues facing that industry.
“Scott is renowned for the quality of work he delivers to his clients and for his advocacy of excellence in consumer financial services law. This recognition is well-deserved, and he will be a strong contributor to the College as it strives to advance its mission,” said Alan S. Kaplinsky, who leads Ballard Spahr’s Consumer Financial Services Group. Mr. Kaplinsky was the College’s first President, and last year was honored with its Lifetime Achievement Award.
