The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has accepted a proposal from Transurban to deliver an eight-mile extension of the I-395 Express Lanes, from Alexandria, Virginia to Washington, DC.

The plan to extend the express lanes was included in a comprehensive agreement between VDOT and Transurban for the 95 Express Lanes project. The concessionaire’s agreement, which falls under the 95 Express Lanes Comprehensive Agreement, will be for a 70-year period.

Construction is expected to begin this summer, and is scheduled for completion by fall 2019.

Steve Park, Kim Magrini, and Stephanie Kim are serving as P3 Counsel to the Virginia Department of Transportation.
