Zaven A. Sargsian devotes his practice to privacy and data security, commercial litigation, and real estate litigation.

Mr. Sargsian represents public and private companies in complex litigation matters at both the trial and appellate levels in federal and state courts, with an emphasis on corporate business litigation, land use and development disputes, construction matters, and creditor and bankruptcy matters.

Mr. Sargsian also advises in the area of privacy and cybersecurity and is a member of Ballard Spahr’s privacy and cybersecurity practice group. He advises clients on matters, including data security policies and practices, security frameworks and compliance models, Utah’s Information Technology Act and Protection of Personal Information Act, Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI DSS), FTC privacy rules and compliance, CFPB enforcement actions, Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, HIPAA rules, COPA, DPPA, FCRA, and cyber liability insurance. He is also a board member of the Cyberlaw Section of the Utah State Bar, and the Cybersecurity Leadership Council of the Utah Chamber of Commerce.

Mr. Sargsian is a member of the Ballard Spahr Media and Entertainment Law Group. He has represented clients on First Amendment matters, as well as defamation defense, Communications Decency Act issues, anti-SLAPP motions, and copyright matters.

Pro Bono Experience

Participated in President Obama’s Clemency Initiative and obtained clemency for indigent and deserving inmate.

Represented online activist in a significant lawsuit against her for her online speech activities.

Regular legal consultant at the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Business Legal Clinic.
