Our Phoenix office—opened more than a decade ago by a well-known group of corporate attorneys—has grown into a thriving hub of more than 30 attorneys who practice in business and finance, litigation, public finance, intellectual property, and real estate.
The combination of on-the-ground legal talent, local and regional market knowledge, and national resources attract clients throughout the Southwest as well as national leaders. Our attorneys have broad industry knowledge and advise clients in the life sciences and technology, real estate, higher education, manufacturing, fashion and retail, financial services, sports, and media sectors. We represent public sector and government clients, as well as major nonprofit organizations from national universities to global charities.
Our corporate attorneys are widely recognized for their work in mergers and acquisitions and securities transactions. The team is consistently named a leading practice for corporate M&A by Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business and is ranked in the highest tier nationally for corporate law, M&A law, securities capital markets, and securities regulation.
Our litigators handle commercial disputes involving intellectual property infringement, labor and employment, environmental law, and natural resources issues. We also have attorneys who focus on election law, bankruptcy, government relations, First Amendment and media law, white collar defense, and Indian law.
We have considerable experience with public finance transactions—including the structuring and financing of public-private partnerships—as well as in real estate development, leasing, and land use matters.
We are active members of the community and our lawyers play leadership roles in the Arizona Tech Council, the Arizona Chamber of Commerce, and Greater Phoenix Leadership. In addition, we are dedicated to promoting the vibrant cultural life of the city—supporting the Arizona Science Center, the Heard Museum, the Sandra Day O'Connor Institute, and both Arizona State University and the University of Arizona.
At Ballard Spahr, we believe our clients are best served by innovative solutions that spring from varied viewpoints and perspectives. And we are committed to creating a vibrant community where people of all backgrounds can thrive. Our Phoenix office has one of the highest percentages of women partners and minority associates in the area. The office participates in Maricopa County Bar Association’s annual Diversity Legal Writing Program and is a sponsor of the Arizona Foundation for Women event and the Arizona State Bar Leadership Institute.
Pro bono service is a hallmark of the firm, and our Phoenix attorneys devote numerous hours to pro bono cases every year—from partnering with the Tempe Police Department on a Wills for Heroes program to volunteering at local food banks and the Lura Turner Homes. We assist in efforts to promote voter rights and provide assistance to the homeless.
