Meredith C. Swartz represents employers across numerous industries in a broad range of employment and labor law disputes. Ms. Swartz has counseling and litigation experience, including in the single-plaintiff, class, and collective action context, on a variety of employment law issues, including, discrimination, whistleblower and retaliation, wage and hour, Family and Medical Leave Act and related state laws, trade secrets and restrictive covenants, and breach of contract. Ms. Swartz also has extensive experience conducting internal investigations. She counsels employers on reductions in force, executive compensation agreements, adverse employment actions, reasonable accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act, and on matters related to the Fair Credit Reporting Act and related state laws, including internal employee background check processes and forms.

Ms. Swartz also advises both public and private employers on traditional labor issues, including union-organizing campaigns, collective bargaining, and unlawful picketing activity. She has experience handling interest arbitrations and grievance arbitrations, as well as representing employers before the National Labor Relations Board, Pennsylvania Labor Relations Board, New Jersey Public Employment Relations Commission, New Jersey Office of Administrative Law, and Delaware Public Employment Relations Board.

  • Representing a municipality in Fair Labor Standards Act collective action litigation
  • Representing a public utility company in an array of grievance arbitrations involving discipline and contract interpretation matters
  • Representing public universities in union organizing campaigns
  • Represented a manufacturer against allegations of discrimination and retaliation; obtained dismissal of the complaint
  • Represented an office equipment company in the prosecution of tortious interference, defamation, trade libel, and unfair competition claims; obtained favorable settlement for the client
  • Represented an office equipment company and its founders against allegations of unfair competition and breach of restrictive covenants; obtained favorable settlement for the client
  • Represented a hospital in litigation involving allegations of invasion of privacy and defamation in connection with an employee's termination; obtained dismissal of the complaint

Ms. Swartz is a member of the firm's Hiring Committee and is actively involved in managing the firm's summer program.

Pro Bono Experience

Ms. Swartz maintains an active pro bono practice, assisting clients in a variety of matters ranging from child adoption proceedings to internal investigations.
